{"id":2421,"date":"2018-08-19T22:37:13","date_gmt":"2018-08-19T21:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buxtonac.org.uk\/?p=2421"},"modified":"2018-08-19T22:37:13","modified_gmt":"2018-08-19T21:37:13","slug":"buxton-ac-far-and-wide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/?p=2421","title":{"rendered":"Buxton AC &#8211; Far and Wide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Travelling all the way up to the beautiful Duddon Valley in Cumbria to take part in the Turner Landscape fell race, the fifth counter of the English Fell Championships, five Buxton AC athletes took on the challenge of a tough ten and a half mile race with three thousand feet of climbing, no mean feat.<\/p>\n<p>From a field of 360, and contending with the cream of the entire country\u2019s fell runners, Ben Light demonstrated his season\u2019s form by finishing in a very creditable 52nd place in a hard-won one hour, 36 minutes and 38 seconds.\u00a0 Rob White was second Buxton runner home in 1.44.46, followed by Bryan McKenna in 1.48.41, Dan Latham 2.08.53 and Richard Goff 2.38.25.\u00a0 The final and sixth counter in the Howgills will present the runners with another tough test over a much shorter distance of 5 miles \u2013 but with two and a half thousand feet of climb!<\/p>\n<p>Still on the fells, and a brand new but eminently traditional race was Hob Hursts 5 miler, taking the runners directly uphill out of Beeley to the historic Hob Hursts\u2019 House, before heading all the way back down for a long and fast descent back to the lovely village.\u00a0 Tania Wilson took the plaudits by being first Buxton runner home in a speedy 42.56, and 72nd placing, while Mark Halsey followed in 92nd position in a time of 44.41.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/14322415_10210037113860085_132414949903615082_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2426\" src=\"http:\/\/buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/14322415_10210037113860085_132414949903615082_n-212x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/14322415_10210037113860085_132414949903615082_n-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/14322415_10210037113860085_132414949903615082_n.jpg 543w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" \/><\/a>The Leek Half Marathon was not quite as it should have been last weekend.\u00a0 After the drama of the terrible fires over the Roaches, and the consequent road closures, a late but very sensible decision was taken to go ahead with the event, but to make it a 10 miler, over a still very hilly course.\u00a0 Three Buxton athletes took part.\u00a0 Martin Ward, returning to form following a long-term injury, ran a cracking race to finish in a time of 1.14.44, 60th from a field of 263 runners.\u00a0 Next home, and claiming 1st Female Over 60 prize, was Sheila Bradley in 83.21, while Sam Willis ran a personal best for the distance in 85.14 and was third Female Over 35.<\/p>\n<p>Adele Thornton claimed a personal best for her 10K time at Borth Beach, Aberystwith whilst on holiday, and was pleased to finish in 51.39.<\/p>\n<p>On the Parkrun front, Terry &amp; Annette Fowler ran in the southernmost event at Penrose, Cornwall with 16th and 53rd finishing positions, in 20.27 and 22.43 respectively.\u00a0 Nearer to home, Ross Martland and Matt Hawtin ran at Macclesfield, with times of 23.04 and 23.49.\u00a0 Angela Bent ran at Bakewell, claiming a 27.07 time, while husband Chris race-walked the event and finished in 37.58.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Travelling all the way up to the beautiful Duddon Valley in Cumbria to take part in the Turner Landscape fell race, the fifth counter of the English Fell Championships, five Buxton AC athletes took on the challenge of a tough ten and a half mile race with three thousand feet of climbing, no mean feat.
