An abundance of dazzling performances from Buxton athletes this week, with sensational results.<\/p>\n
Jake Fearn\u2019s star shone brightly at the John Hewitt Memorial Shelf Moor six mile fell race last weekend. An \u201cAS\u201d category race \u2013 so pretty challenging \u2013 the route climbs 1500 feet overall and traverses rough and exposed moorland, passing three World War II aircraft wreckages en route, with the final B-29 resting virtually at the top of the entire Peak District. Fearn\u2019s stunning first place in 46.19 was a smidgen ahead of Buxton Junior Sam Soles\u2019 fine second place in 46.23, a veritable tussle for top spot. Team mate Jason Brunnock\u2019s impressive 8th<\/sup> placing in 49.46 gave the lads first male team overall. Jo Bednall, meanwhile, rightly claimed 1st<\/sup> Female Vet 45 in 64.09, with Junior Heather Wilshaw second Buxton female home in 86th<\/sup> place, 69.07.<\/p>\n Amy Wadsworth\u2019s form has undoubtedly returned and how. At the Golden Ball 10 mile road race up in Lancaster, she coasted home in first place in the ladies\u2019 race in a steaming 67 minutes and 42 seconds, while step-dad Jon Sewell sprinted back in a personal best time for the distance in 63.42. A worthwhile trip \u201cUp North\u201d for the pair of them.<\/p>\n Over the space of eight days, Alan Talbot has smashed FOUR club records in the Vet 70 age category, previously reported at the half marathon and 10k distances. He followed these up with slashing four minutes from the 5 mile record, coming home in 38.56 at the Headington 5 and demolishing the 5K record by almost three minutes at the Mid Cheshire 5K, cruising home in 22.04. A truly regal purple patch!<\/p>\n At the inaugural Peak District 50 mile ultra event, a superb route around our beautiful County starting at Castleton, and heading over Curbar Edge, Chatsworth, the lovely Dales of Darley, Lathkill and Millers before heading back to Castleton, and with over 8,000 feet of climbing, Martin Ward is recovering from the shock of coming home in an amazing third place overall in 11 hours, a brilliant result.<\/p>\n A trip up to the beautiful county of Yorkshire helped Rob White reap the reward of first Male Vet 40 at the Tholthorpe 10K in an impressive 35.02, 6th<\/sup> overall and from a field of almost 300.<\/p>\n Returning closer to home, at the Barrel Inn Fell Race out of Eyam, Joanne Bednall won her age category yet again, finishing 1st<\/sup> FV50 in the 6.5 mile race in a first rate 56.28, 93rd<\/sup> overall from a field of 270. Jason Brunnock was first Buxton male back, with a 16th<\/sup> placing in 44.37 while a mere 2 seconds separated David Newton and Richard Bouglas\u2019 times of 53.02 (62nd<\/sup>) and 53.04 (63rd<\/sup>). Pete Bailey completed the Club\u2019s team, finishing in 121st<\/sup> place in 59.36.<\/p>\n Kate Ledin ran in sultry conditions at the Burgess Parkrun, London, and \u201csteamed\u201d home in 23.24, second Female Vet 55, 152nd<\/sup> from a field of 515.<\/p>\n At the famous Longshaw Sheepdog Trials fell race, Mark Halsey finished in 56.16 (122nd<\/sup>) and Angela Bent in 76.25 (245th<\/sup>).
