{"id":3553,"date":"2019-09-11T08:25:03","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T07:25:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buxtonac.org.uk\/?p=3553"},"modified":"2019-09-11T08:25:03","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T07:25:03","slug":"a-running-quintet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/?p=3553","title":{"rendered":"A Running Quintet!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A quintet of smashed Club Records highlighted another successful weekend of racing for Buxton AC athletes.<\/p>\n<p>At the Draycote Water 20 mile road race, Katie Rolfe claimed the Female Vet 40 Club Record by storming home in 2 hours 42 minutes, 3<sup>rd<\/sup> female in the category home, a splendid result, slashing 3 minutes from the Club Record. Over the same course, but just two laps, was the 10 miler and Alan Talbot\u2019s light continues to burn brightly as he sped home in 1.17.02, taking the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Male Vet 70 place as well as breaking the Club Record.\u00a0\u00a0 Tim Rolfe ran the 20 miler in 3.15.25, first time at the distance and a solid result in preparation for the upcoming Berlin Marathon.<\/p>\n<p>Talbot claimed another Club Record recently too \u2013 the Male Vet 70 category for the 20 mile distance, and in a superb time of 2.52.13 on the South Cheshire 20 miler. Is there no stopping this record breaking running machine?<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3555\" src=\"http:\/\/buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/42874266_10156735394718415_6430485607494975488_n-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/42874266_10156735394718415_6430485607494975488_n-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/42874266_10156735394718415_6430485607494975488_n.jpg 596w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lake Vyrnwy\u2019s half marathon is a beautifully flat course, with fantastic personal best potential. Not one to disappoint, scampering home in a season\u2019s best time of 1.16.11, Rob White was not only 39<sup>th<\/sup> out of a huge field of 1100, but managed to claim the Club Record for the distance at the Vet 45 category. Debbie Hope, not to be outdone, claimed the Female Vet 45 Club Record, racing home in a terrific 1.33.41, 208<sup>th<\/sup> overall.<\/p>\n<p>Terry and Annette Fowler took the Buxton AC name on their travels at the weekend, and while holidaying in Europe took the opportunity to race at the Vienna LCC Babenbergerlauf 5K, both returning with gleaming trophies for their efforts. Running a fine personal best time of 21.04, Annette was 2<sup>nd<\/sup> female finisher overall, 1<sup>st<\/sup> FV50, while Terry finished in 20.08, 1<sup>st<\/sup> MV50 and 5<sup>th<\/sup> overall from a field of over 100 runners. A holiday to remember!<\/p>\n<p>Running for two fantastic charities, Macmillan Cancer Research and Pancreatic Cancer respectively, Sarah Sewell and Emma Wentworth ran in the Great North Run last Sunday, finishing in around 2.12, both raising a pot of money for the worthwhile causes.<\/p>\n<p>More great results on the fells, with Buxton lads taking the team prize at the Padfield Plum Fair Scamper, a 5.5 mile race with over a thousand feet of ascent. From a modest field of around 60, it was touch and go whether a Buxton Senior or Buxton Junior were going to gain top spot, but Senior Jake Fearn managed to claim 1<sup>st<\/sup> place trophy in 37.38 while the talented Junior Sam Soles was 2<sup>nd<\/sup> in 38.44. Team mate Pete Bailey, finishing in 30<sup>th<\/sup> in 50.31, gave Buxton the male team prize.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3556\" src=\"http:\/\/buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/70278418_2644318828921371_8070366355183894528_n-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/70278418_2644318828921371_8070366355183894528_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/70278418_2644318828921371_8070366355183894528_n-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dev.buxtonac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/70278418_2644318828921371_8070366355183894528_n.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the Great Longstone 5 mile fell race, Chris Rushworth was first Buxton runner home in 19<sup>th<\/sup> place from over 200 runners in 33.02, followed by Martin Thomson (32<sup>nd<\/sup> 35.05) and Pete Bailey (92<sup>nd<\/sup> 40.15).<\/p>\n<p>The Bullock Smithy 56 miler takes in most of our glorious Peak District, enticement enough to take part in this annual tough event. Nigel Jeff couldn\u2019t resist the challenge and was well rewarded for his efforts, taking a fantastic 6<sup>th<\/sup> finishing place in 11 hours and 11 minutes \u2013 a supreme result.<\/p>\n<p>A Parkrun round-up starts with Rebecca and Mark Day\u2019s trip to the beautiful Astbury Mere at Congleton where both performed well, with 22.06 and 22.59 finishing times respectively, 27<sup>th<\/sup> and 38<sup>th<\/sup> from a field of 269 runners. As well as the Buxton Juniors at Bakewell, four Seniors took part. As a warm up to his record breaking 10 mile the following day, Alan Talbot finished the 5K course in 22.41 (51<sup>st<\/sup>), Ian Drayton 23.26 (62<sup>nd<\/sup>), Charlie Aucott 25.46 (110<sup>th<\/sup>), George Webb 25.00 (92<sup>nd<\/sup>) and Kate Brown 26.25 (129<sup>th<\/sup>).\u00a0\u00a0 The Ledin duo, Stefan and Kate, ran at Burgess Park, London with results of 21.28 and 22.51 respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A quintet of smashed Club Records highlighted another successful weekend of racing for Buxton AC athletes.
